| The HIdeaway View Estates Log Cabin was built in 1973 to be used as a summer vacation home. It was used for that purpose until 1987, when it was sold to the last owners who lived in the home year round. We purchased this home from the estate. This home has a history and a beauty that we could see under the years of use. We wanted to restore it and spent many hours educating ourselves about the process of restoration before we actually began to work.
Restoration begins with examination. This home was functionally sound and very well built. We spoke with three groups of professionals for their opinions as we needed a consensus. Our primary goal was to restore this home in such a manner that it would serve a family for years to come with minimal maintenance. We followed their collective advice and did the following: wire brushed the aged and weathered areas, had a professional treat the logs for any possible infestations of bugs, chinked the cracks between the logs with new chinking where required and sealed them with a clear seal and then put a protective stain over the entire exterior. The result is obvious, logs that glow with life and vitality and keep the home cool in the summer and warm in the winter. Nature's insulation with a little human assistance!
We redirected the drainage around the home and then completely insulated the entire underside of the log cabin to insure that this residence would be winter ready. In the cold of last winter, when faced with a record snow fall, the Hideaway View Estates Log Cabin had no frozen pipes. The home was heated with the two infrared low energy cost heaters and remained warm and cozy as the workman performed interior restoration.
The plumbing was replaced with the latest technology (PEX) to insure that the new owners could enjoy the winter without the issue of old, freezing pipes. Plumbing can be a huge problem when one lives in the mountains at an elevation of a 1000 feet.
The interior was cleaned until the years of use faded and the beauty of the wood became an art form. The old flooring was removed and replaced by family-friendly tile and laminate in some areas. All of the colors are coordinated to compliment the beauty of the log cabin and to add to the natural light. We made every effort to restore this home while keeping in mind the needs of those who would purchase it for their down time. |
